Everything you need to get started
Ready to get your provisional Licence?
In order for you to start learning to drive any heavy goods vehicle, you’ll need your provisional driving licence in place. On this page, you will find some useful information on how to achieve this.
Licence Application
Your first job needs to be filling in a D2 form and getting a medical professional to fill out a D4 form. You can either order these forms through the government website, collect them from your local Post Office or collect them from myself. For more information on how to do this, follow the link below.
Once you have received your driving licence back from the DVLA with the provisional entitlement, you can start your tuition.
You cannot however take your driving test until you have passed your Hazard Perception and HGV theory tests.
Theory & Hazard Perception
Whilst you’re waiting for your licence to come back, you could use this time to prepare for your Hazard Perception and HGV Theory tests. This is referred to as your CPC part 1 test. There’s a lot of resources online to help you prepare for this, there are also applications that can be used on your mobile device.
If you click on the link below, this will take you to a page that I recommend for your Theory and Hazard Perception preparation and mock testing. You can also use this site for your Mod 2/Case Study preparation.
DCPC (Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence)
In order for you to drive a HGV professionally, you’ll need your DCPC card. In order to attain this you’ll need to have passed your Mod 2 case study, and then your Mod 4 test. Again, there are lots of online resources to help with your preparation for the Mod 2 case study test. Once Mod 2 has been completed, you can then complete the Mod 4 training and test. This part can be done here at LUT as part of your training package. Follow the link below which will take you to the site that I recommend for your Mod2/Case Study prepartion.
Feeling overwhelmed?
You may feel a little overwhelmed with the amount of work required before you can actually take your driving test. Once you start getting into it, it will take you no time at all to get test ready. You can even leave the Mod 2 and Mod 4 until after you have passed your driving test if you wish to speed things up a little. We are here to support you on your journey, so if you have any concerns, please get in touch.
